For the three remaining days in Jerusalem the McBrides walked alot. One of the highlights was the market street which was used hundreds of years ago and is still used today. The market was very busy since it was just prior to Shabbat. Another way to see the old quarter is to walk along the old ramparts. Another thing that we did was visit Yad Vashem (the Holocaust memorial) The memorial was very moving and was informative. From Jerusalem we took a bus to Ein Bokek, a small tourist town. The only draw of Ein Boqeq is its proximity to the Dead Sea. Floating in the Dead Sea was great. If you are standing on the bottom and you put one leg up your whole body flips onto its back. Just do not get any water in cuts, eyes or ears. It stings like heck and I only got a drop. From Ein Bokek we took yet another bus to Eilat, a border town for Aqaba, Jordan and Taba, Egypt. Believe it or not, our hotel there was called Falty Towers. We extended our stay in Eilat because of its stellar beaches. We found a small beach club out of town and stayed there all day. From Eilat we crossed by foot to Taba. There is not much in Taba other than a couple apartment blocks a bus station and surprisingly, a Meridien. We took a bus to Suez but had to pay for a full ticket to Cairo since the bus we took was not supposed to be stopping in Suez. Suez is said to be the friendliest city in Egypt. The one word most of the locals knew was ” HELLO!!!!” The one and
only reason to go to Suez is to see the Suez Canal and all the colossal ships loaded with goods. For such big ships they make only little waves. From Suez we took a short bus ride to Cairo were we hunkered in at the Capsis Hotel. We currently await the arrival of the Mills family. We cannot wait!
